ALDEBURGH

Aldeburgh Beach (Martello Section) 30th Aug.1997

Started fishing (just myself) around 6pm in the first proper groin towards the tower, having decided to try for some late Sole or maybe a Bass.Used a 2 hook rig with size4 hooks, baited with Rag and Lug for the sole, and a single running 3/0 baited with crab or mackerel for bass............. NO FISH..... just crabs!!!!!!!

Got dark around 8pm...... waited for the sole to arrive....... nothing not even a pout!!!!!

By 10.30pm I was thinking very dark thoughts about what I'ed like to do to the bait robbing crabs..... 10mins in the water, and the hooks where stripped.....  decided to see how other people were doing (lots down for sole I presume)...... most had blanked as well, apart from one chap who claimed to have had a very undersize codling and a pout..... Hope at last......

Shortly after returning to my rods, the chap next door claimed to have pulled out an undersize codling (from short range having had a birds nest in his multiplier). I then managed to take my first fish...... 6 inches of pure whiting... WOW. Rapidly placed it on a free-lined pennell (3/0 hooks) in the hope of bass, and used the other rod for the illusive sole........ resulted in more undersize whiting, and surprise surprise...no bass. With these small undersize fish turning up now, it looks good for the larger whiting in late September/October. Packed up around 1am and drove back to London.
