Allhallows

Allhallows Holiday Camp. Isle of Grain 30th Oct.1999

Drove down with Karen to meet up with Steve, just off of junction 4 from the M20, and then drove in convoy to the Allhallows camping site ... arrived just before 4pm.

High Water was due just after 5.30pm, so we set up a stones throw away from the cars. The wind was starting to pick-up from the W/SW force 3 to 4, with heavy showers at times....

Steve set up two rods with a three hook flapper with size 1 hooks, and the other with a 2/0 pennel rig.
Karen and I fished with a rod each, using a two hook clip-up rig with size 1/0 hooks ... and I alternated with a 2/0 wishbone.....
We used a variety of baits from common lug, squid and frozen mackerel.

Karen and I had fun with the Beach-Buddy .. not really designed to be set-up on grass ... almost took off like a kite .. with Karen clinging on for dear life .... amused Steve no end!!!

4.25pm .... Steve caught the first fish of the day ..... an 8” bass ....

4.35pm .... Steve has another 8” bass .......
4.50pm ..... Steve has yet another 8” bass .. Karen and I were starting to suspect that it was the same one each time !!!!! ;-)
I think it had more to do with Steve’s knowledge of the venue, and was fishing the gullies and mussel beds to good effect.....

4.55pm ... Steve lands a small crab..... which was rather apt, as we had only just been talking about them....
5.00pm .... Karen lands her first fish .... a 10” whiting .....

5.25pm .... Steve lands a 13” whiting......
I’m starting to feel left out!!!!
5.30pm ... but change things around with a monster .... well all of 6” of whiting!!!!

Karen landed a flounder of 11” at the same time ...... all I can say is at least I made her rigs :-)

6.00pm ... both Steve and myself have an 8” whiting...
6.15pm .. Steve then lands a 12” whiting....
6.24pm ... Karen has a double shot of whiting .. 12” and 9”....
6.28pm... Steve then has a double shot of whiting ... 13” and 12” ....
6.40pm .... Steve has a small 9” flounder...
6.45pm ... I manage to land an 11” whiting on the wishbone....
7.15pm ... Karen has another double shot of whiting with the best fish of the evening of 16” and a smaller fish of around 12”.....

7.39pm ..... last cast produces a small 8” bass for me ....

Start to pack-up when disaster strikes..... first Steve’s brolly gives up the ghost, and then my Diawa AWT will not come apart ... we pulled, twisted, knocked, WD40’d it .. nothing would shift the two halves .... no way to fit it in the car .. so in the end the only thing we could do, was let Steve cut the joining rod to the ferrule in half, in the hope that I can get a new one put in .. we shall see.....
