Folkestone

Folkestone Rotunda Beach / Mill Point / Warren 1st May.1999

Arrived at the Rotunda car park around 4.45am, to be find clear skies, and a light variable wind, of force 2 or less. Low water was due around 7.30am.

Set up the carp rod, and attached a blue and white Rapala J13, and started to flick around the base of the pier....

5.05am ... thump ... small bass of 12" hits home on the tail section ... photographed it, and returned it ...........

5.30am ... managed to get a nasty tangle in the braid .... and after about 5 minutes of picking at it with my finger nails, decided to cut it off, esp. as it was right at the end, so the loss would be minimal....

7.00am ... By this time I was getting bored, no other takes, and no surface activity, switched a number of times to a Krillet just to see if any Garfish were about, but with no Joy.... I'd also started thinking about where else to fish, and if it would be better... decided to go and look over Mill Point, as low tide approached, so I could get a good look at potential spots....

Looked like very shallow ground, with thick kelp, and a number of narrow channels running out to sea ... looked difficult to approach with weed covered rocks all the way to the edge, rather than any form of obvious platform ... definitely a venue for two or more on safety grounds, and probably better off using bass bullets than J13Õs, for distance, and to run a shallow draft......... Having decided this... I flick a J13, and a Krillet to the western side, by the rock groins .. nothing .... decided by 8am that I'd go to the Warren....

Arrived at the Warren around 8.30am ... the tide was too far out and shallow for me to fish, so I waited, and prepared a redgill and bubble float, for when the tide turned, and I could fish .. which was around 9.30 ..... had no joy .... by 10am, I could use a little J9, and flick off of the groins on the second apron .... nothing .... 10.30am, and I'm using a J13 ..... nothing ..... and no bait fish in the water ... try the Krillet ... nothing.... decided to phone Karen and let her know I would be late .. but the signal for the mobile was blocked out by the high cliffs behind ..... decided that enough was enough by 11.30am .. and packed up to go home......
