Folkestone Rotunda Beach 2nd Aug.1999

Arrived at the Rotunda beach around 4am ......... light SE wind, with low water due around 10am.

Started off using a J13, and after only a few casts, Phil Kay arrived.

The sea was dead calm, and to our disappointment, no sign of activity could be seen on the surface .. well not until around 6.30am, when Phil spotted a couple of small bait fish about 12' in front of us.....

7.15am .. by this time, I decided to use a Krillette to tempt any Garfish, Mackerel or Bass that may be around .. and sure enough ...BANG.... bring in a 13.5" Mackerel .. that decided to make a try for the sea once I'd unhooked it half way up the beach ... much to Phils amusement.....

Phil seemed to be having difficulties with the line on his reel ... said something about being his own fault, as he'd considered changing it .. but the real problem was that the lures he was now using were too light to load the line back onto the reel, and he kept having coils jump off and ensuing tangles ... much as I'd had using the bass bullets before ..... the upshot was poor old Phil lost three lure I think as a result of snap offs from the weaknesses put into the line..... so I lent him a Toby ...... more fool me ... Five minutes before 9am, and Phil gives a shout .. and he lands a small 16" bass ......

9.30am and Phil has a chasing Garfish .. but no take :-(

10.00am Phil has a tug in amongst the rocks at the base of the Pier .. but again failed to connect....

By 11am we called it a day .. real pity .. all the signs were good, but the fish failed to show .. may be the result a weeks worth of SE winds, and a falling tide .. but at least we didn't blank......
