Folkestone

Folkestone Warren 7th Oct.2000

This was going to be a short trip, with a neap tide of 5.1m at 7am ...... long way to drive 90 miles for approx. 3hrs fishing... but then the forecast was good for that time (SW 2/3 Fair / Misty), and was going to deteriorate..... so I decided to take the chance, not knowing when work or weather would allow me again to go bassing this year.....

Arrived down at the Warren slightly later than I'd planned at around 6am .... by the time I'd walked to the Nags Head and set up the time was closer to 6.30am......

6.40am ..... small bass (I think) hit home on the J13, but was soon off :-(

6.45am...... bringing in the J13 which I could clearly see in the water (good clarity due to lack of phytoplankton in the water column), and following behind was another small chasing bass.....

7.05am.... next cast..... bang...... a larger fish hits home, again I'm impressed with the "Dicentrarchus" bass rod (Marsh Tackle), as it sets the hook and bends smoothly into the fighting fish.... soon have it up on the surface, and whilst it made a couple of runs, it's soon in the safety of the landing net.... 18" bass just over 2lb......

7.05am.... Next cast.. bang... almost an identical fight ensues ... surprise, surprise, the result is a 17.5" bass again around 2lb........

7.10am.... next cast..... bang..... another fish hits home ..... smaller this time.. around 1.5lb.... play the fish out, just bring it to the landing net, and it shakes it's head.... and off it swims ..... oh well, don't really mind, at least it's not a dream size fish swimming off without having been landed!!!!

7.15am ..... another bass comes knocking.. but fails to connect.......

7.35am..... and yet another.... but again without hooking itself.....

After this things generally went quiet, and by 9am, I'd had enough and packed up ready for the long journey home.....
