Folkestone

Folkestone Warren 9th Sept.2000

Drove down to the Warren so that I could be setup and plugging by 6am from the slipway off the end of the second apron..... the forecast was not too bad, with W to SW winds of force 2 to 3, with scattered showers... high water was due around 9am although a neap tide......

As the tide was rising across the sand and scattered outcrops of gault clay boulders and weed, I decided to use a J9 (black and silver), and utilise the wind that was blowing from behind to give me a little added distance....

6.15am ..... a bass hits the surface some way off from where I was working the lure..... next cast however.. thump.... a fish hits home .... only a small fish as very little line was taken ..... I felt the fish shake it's head, and the line drop slack... :-(

6.30am ..... another thump and a connection with a small fish... this time it stayed on and I landed it..... all 8" of it!!! .. took a pic and slipped it back.....

6.50am...... slightly larger, but still undersized bass of 11.5" takes the J9.... and has it's picture taken...

By 7.30am I decide to move back up towards the Nags Head as the water has risen to make use of the J13's...

10.30am...... had a sharp take on the Rapala.. really close in, almost up against the wall..... the fish crash dived, and again..... and again....... eventually up pops a small pollack of 13.5"............ don't often seem to encounter pollack here, although slightly beyond the tidal range I'm told the netters pick them up along with the dingy boys...... must have something to do with the fact that this was a neap tide, and the fish hadn't moved that far off at low water.....

10.55am..... another close in, crash diving pollack ..... this time 14"......

By 11.30am, I decided to pack-up and go off to Marsh Tackle ...
Jaybee (he of NESA etc. etc...) was staying over with Dave on his way back from the Channel Islands, and I had said that I'd try and catch-up with him whilst he was down South....... would have taken him plugging on this little trip, but he'd got to Dave's really late the previous night...... anyway we met up and had a good old chin wag about this and that, over some huge bacon rolls that Dave very kindly supplied. I'd been hoping to meet up with Jaybee for ages, and it's always nice to be able to put a face to a name, and find the individual is as warm hearted as they appear on the Net, if not more so.....
