Drove over and picked Chris up around 7am …. By the time I’d parked, and we’d got to the rock / tackled up and generally sorted ourselves out it was close to 7.45am….

The sea was flat with the calm conditions, although a slight northerly wind blew infrequently… Saw some small fish home in on the ground bait as it hit the water, but otherwise it was very quiet….

8.10am .. my float suddenly went under … stuck, but was only hooked into a very small fish … turned out to be a small mullet of around 6”, that fell off, just as I was lifting it clear of the water .. probably for the best!!!

Had a number of bites over the next two hours.. failed to connect to the fish, although I did find that I’d hooked scales on two occasions …….

10.30am ….. float bobs, and hit home .. unfortunately its not a mullet, but turns out to be a 7” sand smelt!!!!

11.00am … get a terrific bite, that makes me leap into action, hoping it’s a nice big mullet … what I get for my troubles is a tail hooked sand smelt!!!

11.15am…. another terrific bite .. and yup, you guessed it .. another tail hooked sand smelt results!!!!!

12.00 noon ….. throwing out the ground bait shows that there are large numbers of small mullet about… but where are the larger ones??

Then the groundbait spoon parts company from its handle, and goes flying off into the wild blue yonder ….. take this as a hint, and by 12.20with very little water left to fish in, we decided to call it a day……
