Noir Mont Tower 26th July 2000
GR 608,464

Got up around 3am, had a coffee and a chat with Karen (who very kindly made me some sandwiches... grabbed my gear and drove off to Noir Mont Point.

When I arrived it was too dark to risk scrabbling over the rocks on my own so I waited for first light around 5am. The forecast was right, with a light NE wind (F2) with patchy cloud ... LW was due around 8.30am.

I decided against doing too much climbing over the rocks on my own, and so fished the little west bay to the right of the Tower rocks......

Set up the carp rod, and chucked a J13 out a couple of times .. having loaded new braid onto the reel, it caused me a little trouble, by twisting and self knotting .... not helped by my lack of recent practice.......

Saw a couple of fish on different occasions hit the surface, but I couldn't say if they were garfish or small bass.......

After a while I decided to target the local pollack population that I knew lurked in the area, and so I decided to swap reels and use Mono, and thus cut down the number of twisting / self knotting events .... although I still had my fair share!!!!! :-(

Tried out a couple of bar lures such as a Krillet etc, but decided upon using a dark redgill on a meter of mono, attached to a 1oz bomb lead....

5.50am ...... just cast out the redgill, and had started to bring it in, when the line felt like it had hit a brickwall .. which then crash-dived!!!!!!! Struggled to play the fish, knowing that with so many submerged rocks about it would be all too easy to have my line cut .... managed to bring it halfway in ... and then lost it .... I was gutted .... but soon got over it, and back to the job in hand....

6.20am ..... hit another fish ... a lot smaller than the previous one, and easier to control ..... and thus managed to bring it in .. a lovely conditioned pollack of 41cm 1.1/4lb .. took a photo and slipped it back.....

6.35am ..... another fish hit the redgill ... felt smaller still, but it was off before I'd even really started to play it...... such is the joy of lure angling :-)

Things went rather quiet after that, save for the odd line twisting ..... may have had a couple of knocks, but could easily just have been the lead bouncing off a rock ..... so difficult to tell with mono, after using the braid for so long.......

Anyway, around 8.15am, had yet another twist/knot during casting, that resulted in a snap-off ... and decided to call the fishing to a halt, and look over the venue for future reference......
