Rozel Bay 27th July 2000
GR: 698,544

Drove over to St.Ouen's Motor Works around 1.00pm, and purchased a variety of baits.... fresh rag (which we were allowed to sort ourselves.. something of a novelty these days!!!!), frozen squid, mackerel, and sandeels.

Karen and myself then drove over and collected our friend Chris Ball and his 6 year old daughter Kay, and set off for Rozel..... when we arrived the Harbour area had a number of parking spaces available (unusual for this time of year), unloaded the gear, and made our way over to the rocks of the western side of the bay.......

Set up a number of rigs between the three of us, so that we could spin, float-fish and ledger, as the mood took us.....

Started fishing just after 2.30pm, with high water due around 3pm. The weather was sunny, with a light sw wind.....

Time passed ...... and no fish ...... we had hoped for some garfish .. but nothing....

Around 4pm, I managed to snap one of my carp rods in half during a cast .. not best pleased!!! :-(

Things were not looking good, we'd had a few small bites, but nothing to show for our efforts, and we were thinking of calling it a day ....... afternoon fishing is always a hit and miss affair.......

4.45pm ..... suddenly, my rod that I was fishing ledgered rag on, gave a number of jerks .... I grabbed the rod and struck.... knew straight away I was into a fish .. and with Chris as net person, landed a nice little wrasse of 13", 1.1/4lb ..... phew, at least we hadn't blanked!!!!!!

5.15pm ..... Karen's rod showed a number of large rapid bites, followed by line being taken off her reel .... I grabbed the landing net, and she pulled up a lovely Ballan Wrasse of 15", and a shade under 2lb....... again on ledgered rag......

5.25pm ..... Karen again has a number of rapid bites, and pulls up another Ballan Wrasse, this time smaller at 13"......

5.30pm ..... Karen's in again .... it's a big fish, by the way her rod is bending and thumping .... but it gets off all too quick :-(

5.35pm ... Chris gets in on the act .. but this time with a small bass of 16"..... caught on a ledgered combo of rag and squid.....

5.45pm .... Chris lets out a shout as he's into another fish .. which pulls him straight into a weed bed .... he managed to pull it free, and land a nice Black Bream of 11" this time just on squid......

6.00pm ...... clouds start to rapidly darken, and rain starts to fall .. decide to call it a day and head back to the car, and home........
