Identification:
An oval "left-sided" flatfish, with large eyes and mouth. Pale yellow - translucent colour to upper surface. Scales on blind side are smooth.

Breeding:
Spawns in spring. Larvae 4 mm on hatching, metamorphosing at around 19 mm.

Habitat:
Lives on muddy and mixed ground at 100-400 m, and also free-swimming.

Food:
Generally feeds on crustaceans and small bottom-dwelling fish.

Range:
Off Western Atlantic coasts of British Isles.
