Identification:
A sole-shaped (oval) flatfish, with rounded caudal (tail) fin, but with eyes on the left side. Colouration is translucent brownish, and a noticeable ridge is present between the eyes.

Breeding:
North Sea populations breed during the summer.

Habitat:
Sandy or muddy ground in 5-50 m of water.

Food:
The scaldfish feeds on small fish and crustaceans.


Range:
Occurs throughout UK waters.
